Why do I need a Postpartum Doula?
As a Certified Postpartum Doula, I am trained to give expert, non-judgmental, in-home care to parents and newborns. I can make your life easier!
Many expecting parents do lots of preparation for the birth experience, but have no plan in place for the first weeks after Baby is home. The fact is, newborn babies, whether breastfed or formula-fed, don’t sleep for very long stretches, which means that you don’t either. Sleep deprivation can make even basic, everyday tasks and decisions seem overwhelming and difficult. Exhaustion can also make recovering from birth and feeling “like yourself again” take longer. As your postpartum doula, I can help by allowing you to rest when Baby sleeps, taking care of household tasks and errands, and supporting you in creating an optimal sleep environment for everyone in the family.
Current research has shown that mothers who get nurturing care during the postpartum period, and are allowed to rest and bond with their baby, experience:
- better postpartum adjustment
- greater success with breastfeeding
- lower incidence of postpartum depression and mood disorders
- more confidence in their parenting skills
My Postpartum Doula Services Include:
- Non-judgmental emotional support
- Baby care and soothing techniques
- Breast/bottle feeding support and cheerleading
- Postpartum comfort measures for mom

- Sibling integration and family balance
You don’t have to do this alone!
Humans weren’t meant to figure out the postpartum period in isolation. Traditionally, and for most of human history, women have been surrounded by a loving community of family and friends, waited on hand and foot, while they rest in bed with baby snuggled close. In many countries today, women enjoy up to a year of parental leave and free home visits from baby nurses during the postpartum period. Here in America, we’re sent home from the hospital or birthing center with some basic information about keeping Baby alive, but no advice on how to cope when the sleep deprivation sets in, or when your new reality isn’t meeting your expectations of new motherhood.
Most parents today are dealing with the added pressure of returning to work quite soon after Baby’s arrival. This can cause a lot of stress and anxiety, no matter how positive you feel about your return to work. I can help you sort out those feelings and work through them, and I can help with strategies for making your (and your partner’s) return to work go as smoothly as possible!
Parenting will feel so much easier, and more natural, when you have the loving support of a Postpartum Doula! As your doula, I’ll make sure you feel confident in your parenting, and comfortable in your home, while you rest and recover. You’ll never feel like you need to entertain me, or even get dressed. I’ll be there to help you sort out your priorities in baby-raising, and your feelings about becoming a parent. Yes, the postpartum period has its challenges, but I can help you thrive, not just survive!
